BEACHES ACCESSIBLE TO DOGS IN OSTUNI

In a previous guide we showed you what are the beaches near Ostuni, and the Legambiente award that was delivered to the white city. Also in 2018 were made beaches accessible to dogs in Ostuni: Costa Merlata and Località Mogale.

Dogs can swim in the mirror of the sea in front of the marked beach, accompanied by their owners, who have the obligation to lead them on a leash, to let them wear a muzzle and to eliminate their dejections. On the other seaside resorts of the coast there is the prohibition of access for any animal, with the exception of guide dogs for the blind and dogs with a rescue license.

“As for the other years, we thought it appropriate to identify two areas of access to the sea – said the commissioner for the environment Luigi Nacci – usable by people who own a dog. Confirmed the beach of Costa Merlata, we decided not to renew the authorization for the cove of Torre Pozzelle, where is under way, by some volunteers, a meritevolissima initiative aimed at safeguarding specimens of fratino bird, protected species, which has elected that area to particular naturalistic value, as a site suitable for restocking. The fratino is a bird that nests on the ground and is not very prone to flying, so the presence of pets, would endanger its survival. We therefore invite the owners of dogs to go exclusively on the identified beaches, scrupulously adhering to the established rules, and to citizens who do not own dogs, but who frequent those beaches, to show themselves tolerant “.
